Chemical Resistance and Dimensional Stability for Humid Acidic Flue Gas
Skytech Ultrafab Homopolymer Acrylic Needle Felt Filter Bags are the preferred choice for applications involving SO2-laden flue gases, moist acid conditions, and moderate chemical attack in cement, power generation, chemical, and municipal waste-to-energy plants. Homopolymer acrylic fibre exhibits outstanding resistance to hydrolysis and acid degradation, maintaining its filtration efficiency and mechanical strength under humid and chemically active conditions where polyester would rapidly degrade.
What Are Homopolymer Acrylic Needle Felt Filter Bags?
Acrylic fibres used in filtration are classified as either copolymer acrylic or homopolymer acrylic. Homopolymer acrylic (also known as polyacrylonitrile or Dralon-T) has a higher acrylonitrile content than standard copolymer acrylic, which gives it significantly superior resistance to hydrolysis in humid, acidic flue gas. In baghouse applications handling SO2-containing gases with moisture present — such as cement kilns with raw meal moisture and coal-fired boilers with flue gas desulphurisation — homopolymer acrylic substantially outlasts polyester and approaches the acid resistance of more expensive PTFE and P84 fibres.
Homopolymer Acrylic Needle Felt Filter Bags
Features and Benefits
-
Outstanding Hydrolysis Resistance:
Homopolymer PAN fibre resists hydrolytic degradation in humid acidic flue gas — critical for cement kiln, coal boiler, and waste incineration flue gas dust collection
-
Acid Gas Resistance:
Good resistance to SO2 and dilute H2SO4 acid condensation — maintains tensile strength and filtration efficiency in conditions that rapidly degrade polyester bags
-
130°C Continuous Service:
Continuous operating temperature of 130°C covers the majority of cement, power, and chemical industry baghouse applications
-
Cost-Effective vs PTFE:
Homopolymer acrylic delivers significantly better acid resistance than polyester at a substantially lower cost than PTFE or P84 — the economical choice for moderate acid conditions
-
ePTFE Membrane Option:
ePTFE membrane lamination on homopolymer acrylic base provides enhanced particle capture efficiency and improved cake release for sub-micron emission compliance
-
Consistent Dimensional Stability:
Acrylic fibre maintains precise bag dimensions in humid conditions — snap ring fitment and bag-to-cage clearance remain consistent throughout service life

Applications
-
Cement Industry:
Raw mill and kiln baghouses handling humid, SO2-containing flue gas where polyester bags degrade prematurely — homopolymer acrylic is the cost-effective alternative
-
Coal-Fired Power Generation:
Economiser and air pre-heater baghouses on coal-fired boilers where acid dew point excursions cause polyester bags to hydrolyse and fail before their intended service interval
-
Municipal Waste-to-Energy:
Waste incineration baghouses handling acid gas mixtures at moderate temperature — homopolymer acrylic provides better chemical durability than polyester at significantly lower cost than PTFE
-
Chemical Industry:
Flue gas and process exhaust dust collection in chemical plants generating SO2, HCl, and moisture-laden gas streams at temperatures below 130°C
-
Secondary Smelting:
Rotary furnace off-gas dust collection in secondary lead, zinc, and copper smelters where acidic fume conditions are present at moderate temperatures
