Extended Service Life and Higher Flow in Standard Bag Filter Housings
Skytech Ultrafab PP Pleated Hardshell Filter Bags combine a rigid polypropylene outer cage with a pleated polypropylene or polyester membrane inner element to deliver up to 5× the filtration area of conventional flat-panel bags in the same housing footprint. This increased surface area translates into lower differential pressure, longer change-out intervals, and higher flow rates in paint, chemical, water treatment, and industrial process applications.
What Are PP Pleated Hardshell Bags?
PP Pleated Hardshell Filter Bags are a high-performance alternative to standard needle-felt liquid filter bags. A rigid polypropylene support cage holds a pleated membrane or melt-blown depth filter element in a fixed, expanded geometry inside a standard size 1 or size 2 bag filter housing. The pleating dramatically increases the available filtration surface area compared to a flat bag of the same housing size — delivering superior performance without housing modification.
PP Pleated Hardshell Bags
Features and Benefits
-
5× Greater Filtration Area:
Pleated element provides up to 5 times more filtration area than an equivalent flat-panel felt bag in the same housing — dramatically reducing differential pressure and extending bag life
-
Rigid Cage Support:
Structural polypropylene outer cage prevents element collapse at high differential pressure — maintains full filtration area throughout the service cycle
-
Absolute Micron Ratings:
Pleated membrane element achieves absolute ratings from 0.5 µm to 50 µm for reliable, consistent particle retention in each cycle
-
Lower Operating Costs:
Extended change-out interval reduces bag consumable cost, labour downtime, and waste disposal versus conventional felt bags in the same housing
-
High Flow Rate:
Large pleated surface area supports higher liquid flow rates at equivalent or lower differential pressure compared to flat-panel alternatives
-
Drop-In Replacement:
Size 1 and Size 2 PP hardshell bags install directly into all standard bag filter housings without housing modification or adapter rings

Applications
-
Paint and Coatings:
Fine pigment agglomerate and gel particle removal from water-borne and solvent-borne paints — longer bag life reduces costly paint-line changeover downtime
-
Chemical Process Filtration:
Intermediate chemical product clarification where consistent micron retention and low pressure drop are both critical process requirements
-
Water Treatment:
Pre-filtration ahead of RO membranes and UV systems where extended service intervals reduce maintenance intervention frequency
-
Industrial Process Liquids:
General process liquid filtration in pharmaceutical, food, and chemical industries where absolute micron ratings are required
-
Metalworking:
Fine coolant polishing to achieve sub-5 µm particle control for high-precision grinding and lapping operations
