Ultimate Filtration Performance in Extreme Temperature and Chemical Conditions
Skytech Ultrafab P84 (Polyimide) Filter Bags are specified for the most chemically aggressive and thermally demanding dust collection environments, with continuous operating temperatures up to 260°C. The irregular, multi-lobal fibre cross-section of P84 creates a highly tortuous filtration path, delivering exceptional particle capture efficiency on sub-micron acid mist and fine dry dusts generated in waste incineration, chemical processing, battery manufacturing, and secondary aluminium smelting.
What Are P84 Filter Bags?
P84 is the trade name for a polyimide fibre produced by Evonik Industries. Unlike round-cross-section fibres, P84 fibres have a distinctive multi-lobal (star-shaped) cross-section that creates a highly tortuous, irregular filtration path through the needle-felt structure. This geometry provides significantly higher particle capture efficiency at equivalent fabric weight compared to conventional round fibres — while maintaining excellent thermal stability up to 260°C continuous and outstanding resistance to hydrolysis in humid acidic flue gas conditions.
P84 Filter Bags
Features and Benefits
-
260°C Continuous Service:
P84 polyimide fibre maintains full mechanical strength and filtration efficiency at 260°C continuous operating temperature — same rating as PTFE but at lower cost
-
Multi-Lobal Fibre Efficiency:
Star-shaped fibre cross-section creates a tortuous filtration path with higher particle interception efficiency than round fibres at the same fabric weight
-
Hydrolysis Resistance:
P84 fibre exhibits excellent resistance to steam hydrolysis in humid acidic flue gas — critical for waste incineration and chemical plant applications
-
Acid Gas Resistance:
Good resistance to HCl, SO2, and H2SO4 acid mist — superior to polyester and Nomex in moderately acidic flue gas environments
-
ePTFE Membrane Compatibility:
ePTFE membrane lamination on P84 base felt provides sub-micron surface filtration for the most stringent emission permits in high-temperature acidic conditions
-
Dimensional Stability:
P84 maintains precise bag dimensions after repeated thermal cycling — consistent pulse-jet cleaning performance throughout the bag service life

Applications
-
Waste Incineration:
Municipal and industrial waste-to-energy plant baghouses — P84 handles the combined high temperature, acid gas, and sticky fly ash that challenges polyester and Nomex
-
Chemical Manufacturing:
High-temperature chemical process dust collection where acid gas resistance and thermal stability must both be met simultaneously
-
Battery Manufacturing:
Lithium-ion and NiMH cathode material dust collection where P84 efficiency on sub-micron material is superior to conventional fibres
-
Secondary Aluminium Smelting:
Rotary furnace and dross processing fume collection at high temperatures with chloride-containing atmosphere
-
Cement Industry High-Temperature Zones:
Kiln inlet baghouses and bypass systems where process upsets cause temperature excursions that can exceed Nomex limits
