Filter press cloth is the workhorse of solid-liquid separation in chemical, pharmaceutical, mineral processing, sugar, starch, and wastewater treatment industries. Choosing the wrong cloth leads to cloth blinding, poor cake release, filter press bypass, and increased downtime.
Weave Patterns
The three primary weave patterns used in filter press cloths are:
- Plain Weave – Highest strength, lowest permeability. Ideal for fine particle retention.
- Twill Weave – Balanced permeability and retention. Good cake release.
- Satin Weave – Highest permeability, smoothest surface. Best cake release properties.
Material Selection
The two most commonly specified materials are:
- Polypropylene (PP) – Excellent chemical resistance to acids and alkalis. Suitable for pH 1–13. Operating temperature up to 90°C.
- Polyester (PET) – Higher temperature resistance (up to 150°C), better dimensional stability, and superior resistance to hydrolysis.
Plate Compatibility
Filter press cloths must be custom-fabricated to match the plate dimensions, ear-hole positions, and neck/feed eye size of your specific filter press. Skytech Ultrafab supplies cloths for all standard and non-standard plate sizes, with reinforced ears and necks for extended service life.
